144-Inch Parshall Flume Being Braced for Installation
Description
Installation detail of a 144-inch fiberglass Parshall Flume. The contractor has started to brace the flume for the concrete pours to secure the flume in the channel. Note that they have begun to line the flume's sidewalls with plywood to provide stiffening support.
When installing flumes of this size, it is critically important not to skip or scimp on cribbing / bracing the flume. While the flume is reinforced with encapsulated steel in the sidewalls and across the floor, some plasticity remains in the structure.
The flume is one of two used to measure headworks flows into the treatment plant.
Openchannelflow is one of only a handlful of companies worldwide capable of providing Parshall Flumes of this size.
