Painted Steel USGS Portable Parshall Flume

Description

A 12-inch USGS Portable Parshall flume mounted in a concrete headwall.  The painted steel flume, located in Hopland, CA, has flat inlet wing walls and a single outlet wing wall.

USGS Portable Parshall flumes follow the same dimensions as a regular Parshall flume - only omiting the discharge section of the standard flume.  The discharge section is removed in a USGS Portable Parshall flume to make it lighter and easier to install.

With the discharge section removed, the USGS Portable Parshall flume should not be used where submergence ratios greater than 0.5 are expected.
