A 3D render of a 9-inch Parshall flume with a detached 12-inch diameter stilling well.  Detached stilling wells are useful when the location of a flume is not convenient for the operator to access.  With a detached stilling well, the well can be located closer to where the operator can access it.  

When using a detached stilling well it is important that the pipe feeding the stilling well is sufficiently large enough so that a lag does not develop between when a change in level happens in the flume and when it is present in the stilling well.
